We are pleased to present the Bob Jones Memorial Airshow and have an exciting day planned for you.
Sunday 11th June 2017
Our headliner this year is the de Havilland Sea Vixen - Britain's iconic twin-jet flew from Royal Navy Carriers through the Cold War. Just one Sea Vixen remains flying - G-CVIX and is flown by Cdr Simon Hargreaves OBE.
In addition, we see the return of the Battle of Britain Memorial Display, featuring a Lancaster and Spitfire, the Red Devils Parachute Regiment, Bob Pooler in his Aviat Husky, Team Raven, Laura Richardson and her Pitts Special, the Grob Tutor, Twister Aerobic Team, the Old Buckers, the BAC Strikemaster, a Whirlwind HAR 10 and the Cladius Gyrocopter.
Tickets are on sale now!
There is also a limited availability for pilots to fly in. The landing fee is free for LAC members or if taking 50 litres of fuel. To gain PPR, call on 01938 555560 or email us. Please note that we can only accept visiting aircraft before any RA(T) which may be set up for flying displays. Please see NOTAMS for this. In addition, no movements will be allowed until after the last flying display has cleared (around 5pm), at which time there will be a queuing system for departing aircraft. You will not be able to remain airside for the duration of the airshow (i.e. you must enter the showground).

Blackbird Presentation Evening

7.30pm 12 May 2017 Welshpool Town Hall
The Bob Jones Memorial Airshow Committee, with Welshpool Town Hall, are pleased to present a presentation evening by former Blackbird pilot, Col. Richard Graham (ret).
The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird is one of the fastest aircraft ever built, with a top speed of Mach 3.2 (2,000mph). As a reconnaissance aircraft it was almost impossible to detect and if it did come under attach, the answer was simply to fly away faster than the missile.
Col. Graham spent seven years flying the SR-71 through the 1970s and also flew in Vietnam in the F4 Phantom. Col. Graham will give an illustrated talk on his experiences and the Blackbird.
Tickets are available at Welshpool Tourist Office (01938 552043) or Mid Wales Airport (01938 555560).

New Air Ambulance

We are pleased to present the new Wales Air Ambulance to be based at Welshpool.

Welshpool Mid-Wales Airport has been a base for the Wales Air Ambulance since 2006. The new helicopter is the third generation, each being larger and carrying more equipment than its predecesor. This new helicopter, an Airbus H145, replaces the previous EC135. The larger body allows more procedures to be carried out in the air as well as travelling further and faster.

New group and welcome visitors

We are pleased to welcome a new group to Welshpool - the Charlie Sierra Bravo Delta Group, flying a very nice Piper PA28-236 Cherokee Dakota. Welcome to you all!

We were also visited by a special 1940 built Cessna 165 Airmaster G-BTDE. Plus, Aerobatic Champion Lauren Richardson arrived in this Cirrus SR20. If that name sound familiar, it's because Lauren is now an airshow regular - you can see her at the Bob Jones Memorial Air Show on 11 June 2017.

Coast Guard

Welshpool is a bit of a distance from the coast so it is not often that we see the Coast Guards! On Friday, HM Coast Guards came in from Caenarfon in a Sikorski S-92A on a training sortie.

Last Friday we were very pleased to see this pair of Hercules transporters passing over the airport. While they are too large to land (or at least take off again!) the Hercules comes in occasionally to practise a touch and go. We hope to see them again soon!
