We would like to invite you to our Summer BBQ & Fly-In at Welshpool Airport on Sunday September 10th.
The day will feature aerobic flights with Bob Pooler in his Slingsby Firefly as well as air experience flights and a delicious barbecue.
The day is open to the public as well as flying club members. All pilots wishing to fly-in are reminded to PPR on 01938 555560 in advance as we have limited space.
Thank you to all of those who attended the airshow. We hopeful that you had a wonderful day. Thank you also to all the pilots who gave us some very impressive displays despite the challenging conditions.
A big thank you also to our huge team of volunteers. Without you we could not have done it.
Photos of the day will follow in the coming days.
The Bob Jones Memorial Airshow returns this Sunday.
Sunday 11th June 2017
This year, the star attraction is the Rockwell OV-10 Bronco, a stunning turboprop attack aircraft that was specifically designed for the Vietnam conflict. The Belgian-based team is highly experience and will be coming to Welshpool for the first time!
In addition to the Bronco, this year's airshow features an extensive line-up of wonderful displays. The day will open with the aerial arrival of the Red Devils Parachute Team. In addition, we are honoured to see the return of the Battle of Britain Memorial Display, featuring two Spitfires. The highly entertaining Bob Pooler is back in his Aviat Husky, along with the impressive Team Raven and well as Laura Richardson and her Pitts Special.
After popular demand, this year we don't have just one BAC Strikemaster but two! We will also receive our first Soviet airplane - the Yakovlev Yak-3. For those who bore of fixed wings will be delighted to see the Westland Whirlwind along with a gyrocopter. Last but not least, we will feature the Old Bucker pair and an RAF Grob Tutor display.
Tickets are on sale now! Please visit the website for ticket sales.
Please note that similar parking restrictions will apply to last year, with parking and shuttlebuses at Welshpool Livestock Market.
Note: times and line-up subject to changes due to weather, availability and other facts beyond our control. The Bronco OV-10 replaces the previously advertised Sea Vixen which had to pull out.
7.30pm 12 May 2017 Welshpool Town Hall
The Bob Jones Memorial Airshow Committee, with Welshpool Town Hall, are pleased to present a presentation evening by former Blackbird pilot, Col. Richard Graham (ret).
The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird is one of the fastest aircraft ever built, with a top speed of Mach 3.2 (2,000mph). As a reconnaissance aircraft it was almost impossible to detect and if it did come under attach, the answer was simply to fly away faster than the missile.
Col. Graham spent seven years flying the SR-71 through the 1970s and also flew in Vietnam in the F4 Phantom. Col. Graham will give an illustrated talk on his experiences and the Blackbird.
Tickets are available at Welshpool Tourist Office (01938 552043) or Mid Wales Airport (01938 555560).
We are pleased to present the new Wales Air Ambulance to be based at Welshpool.
Welshpool Mid-Wales Airport has been a base for the Wales Air Ambulance since 2006. The new helicopter is the third generation, each being larger and carrying more equipment than its predecesor. This new helicopter, an Airbus H145, replaces the previous EC135. The larger body allows more procedures to be carried out in the air as well as travelling further and faster.
