The Red Dragon Race

As we celebrate 100 years of powered flight and marvel at the huge strides accomplished in aviation, one area still to be conquered is sustainable man powered flight.

A vast amount of success has been achieved into research and development in wings design and lifting devices.

One area to be developed is in a man powered propulsion system for man-powered flight to be sustainable.

The Red Dragon Race has been conceived to encourage development in this field.

Following on from last years race, Welshpool Airport is again holding a competition to promote the development of a Human Powered Air Machine this will then be developed towards Human Powered Flight.

The concept is for competitors to create a machine to be propelled by thrust over a measured distance in minimum time. Prize money will be available and all competitors will need to raise a sum of money for charity.

The aim is to promote and develop a concept for human powered flight and to encourage the reduction of both noise and air pollution for the future of aviation, at the same time encouraging innovation and raising money for charity.

It is anticipated that the race will be an annual event at the airport.

Interested parties please contact Mid Wales Airport Ltd, Welshpool, Powys for an application form and competition rules.
